Mitred Conures are normally found in dry areas.  They like forests, bush land, hills and cultivated areas.  They are also found near rock faces.  They can be seen flying in large flocks.

Their diet consists of seed, nuts, fruit and grain if they come across it.

They nest in tree hollows or on cliffs.  A normal clutch is 2-3 eggs.

The adult plumage of the Mitred Conure is mostly green.  They have a dark red brown colour forehead and this turns to bright red as it move up their head and over they cheeks and lores.  Sometimes they will have a few red feathers on their neck and wing bends.  They have a light whitish beak, brown legs and orangey yellow iris's.  Youngsters are green with the red slowly coming out as they get older.

Pet potential: Mitred Conures make delightful pets.  They are very intelligent and are able to learn tricks.  They aren't great talkers but they can learn a few words and phrases.

Noise level:  High

Cage requirements:  Minimum 2 x 2 x 4 foot

Interesting fact: Mitred Conures migrate to North West Argentina to feed on ripening berries!
