Maroon Bellied Conures are normally found in and around woodland and forests. They can be seen in flocks of around 10 birds but sometimes a flock of around 40 birds can be seen.
Their diet includes fruit, seed, nuts, flowers and insect larvae. They are known to visit crop fields but they are not thought of as a big pest.
They nest in cavitys in trees. A normal clutch is 4-6 eggs and they breed October-December.
The plumage of the adult Maroon Bellied Conure is green feathers on their top and back. They often have red feathers on their forehead and brownish-yellow ones around their eyes. There is some blue on their wings which are otherwise green. Their tail is olive and a reddish brown colour, their abdomen is brownish red. Their beak is greyish brown, their eyes red with a white eye ring and their legs are grey.
Pet potential: As a rule hand reared Maroon Bellied Conures are soft, very loveable little characters. They become very affectionate and will utter little babbling happy sounds. They are very active and their speaking talents are not great. However they can be quite noisy with shrill and harsh calls.
